Franklin native Dr. A.J. “Jeff” Bethurum was a founding partner of Franklin Surgical Specialists in 1994. He graduated from Battle Ground Academy before earning a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis.

Prior to founding Franklin Surgical Specialists, Dr. Bethurum completed an internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix and served a general surgery residency at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Nashville. He received specialty training in vascular surgery with a fellowship at the University of Tennessee.

An active community member, Dr. Bethurum has served as Williamson Medical Center’s Chief of Staff (1981-1990), Chief of Surgery (1990-1998), and on WMC’s Board of Trustees since 1990. Dr. Bethurum also served as Franklin Mayor from 1977 to 1987. He lives in Franklin with his family.
