Surgeon Preston W. Brown, M.D., joins Williamson Medical Group

Brown brings multiple surgical procedures as well as years of experience to WMG

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Preston W. Brown, M.D., F.A.C.S., will join Williamson Medical Group as its newest general surgeon beginning Jan. 4, 2016.

Brown, who graduated from Battle Ground Academy here in Franklin in 1987, continued his education at Washington and Lee University, where he graduated with a degree in chemistry in 1991. He graduated from the University of Tennessee’s College of Medicine in 1996 and followed that with his internship and residency, both at UT’s College of Medicine in Chattanooga.

After completing his residency, Brown moved to Athens, Tenn., where he was a partner in a successful surgical group there. That is, until earlier this year when WMG’s A.J. Bethurum, M.D., phoned his longtime friend John Brown, M.D., a surgeon in Columbia, Tenn., and asked if his son might be interested in returning to Franklin.

“I have known Preston his entire life,” Bethurum said, “I can not only vouch for the character of the Brown family, but I heard throughout Preston’s residency that he was among the best surgical residents they’d ever seen. He is going to be quite an asset to our surgical group. All of us at Williamson Medical Group are dedicated to what we do and the quality of work we do at this hospital is as good or better than you’d get anywhere in Nashville. And we know that Dr. Brown is only going to raise that bar even more.”

Brown said upon hearing of an opportunity to come to Williamson Medical Group, he and his wife discussed how hard it would be to leave Athens, but saw an ‘unbelievable opportunity’ to come here.

“Franklin has everything,” Brown said. “There’s the amazing downtown, the great schools, and we have friends and family here, so that was one of the bigger reasons we entertained coming back. I’ve been away from here since I was 18, so being able to come back here with my family and build my practice with Williamson Medical Group is such a blessing.”

Some of the areas of expertise Brown brings with him include advanced endoscopy and colonoscopies, advanced laparoscopic procedures and breast surgeries.

Brown determined at an early age he wanted to be a surgeon after watching his father perform an appendectomy.

“I landed on general surgery because I love being able to help heal sick people and fix things that they have going wrong,” Brown said. “I love that with surgery we can fix something and help people get on with their lives. That’s what made surgery attractive to me.”

His office is located at 4601 Carothers Parkway, suite 360, in Franklin. He is accepting referrals and new patients and he can be reached by calling 615-794-8900.
