Williamson Medical Center Hosts Colorectal Cancer Awareness Event
Journey Through the Colon Event Raises Awareness about Colon Health and Reinforces the Importance of Colon Screenings
February 27, 2020
In preparation for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March, Williamson Medical Center hosted a “Journey Through the Colon” experience for employees to raise awareness about colon health and reinforce the importance of colon screenings. The event featured information presented throughout a unique walk-through tour of a giant inflatable colon.
“With colorectal cancer being the second leading cause of cancer death among men and women combined in the United States, it’s important to know how to reduce risks through preventative screening,” said Williamson Medical Group’s leading GI specialist, Elizabeth Lindsey, M.D. “Our department is passionate about screening and education so we can provide peers, patients and communities with life-saving information and peace of mind.”
A board-certified specialist with advanced training in diagnosing, managing and healing the gastrointestinal system, Dr. Lindsey was on-hand to answer questions and share information about risk factors, diagnostic tools, treatment and recovery.
The American Cancer Society recommends all men and women at average risk of colorectal cancer begin regular screenings at age 45. People at increased or high risk of colorectal cancer should talk to their healthcare provider, as they may need to start screening earlier.
