Williamson Medical Group bolsters surgery and pulmonary teams with new board-certified providers

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Williamson Medical Group is excited to announce that beginning Aug. 1, Tufik Assad, M.D., M.S.C.I., who is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine; and Timothy Johnson, M.D., M.S., who is a board-certified general and critical care surgeon, will join WMG as full-time providers, bringing their years of experience and expertise to the residents of Williamson and surrounding counties.

Assad, who recently completed his pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt, will primarily focus on diagnosing and treating lung diseases such as COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer in the clinic setting and will work in the critical care unit to see patients who need intensive care.

Growing up with a father who was also a physician, spurred Assad’s love of medicine, which he says is part skill, knowledge and expertise, but also part connecting with patients.

“People come to me oftentimes scared and worried,” Assad said. “It requires a fair amount of quick and immediate camaraderie over some difficult times. It’s something I take very seriously. I listen to them, I hear their concerns, I connect with them to the best of my ability.”

Johnson hails from Putnam Valley, New York, attending medical school in Albany, New York and completed a General Surgery residency in Wilmington, North Carolina before coming to Nashville for a critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt. He said what drew him to become a surgeon was the ability to see immediate results with many of his patients.

“As a surgeon, you see so many people who come in miserable with appendicitis and once you remove the appendix, they feel better immediately,” he said. “There’s something about seeing a patient before and after surgery. It’s one of the few opportunities you have in medicine to see a patient feel better almost immediately.”

Tim Burton, WMC’s associate administrator for operations, who oversees Williamson Medical Group, said he couldn’t be more excited to add two physicians the caliber of Assad and Johnson to the roster of WMG physicians.

“By adding these two physicians to Williamson Medical Group, we are expanding the care we are able to provide to this community,” Burton said. “We already have an amazing roster of physicians doing incredible work here, but we are constantly looking to grow and expand the service we offer to our patients. We couldn’t be happier to welcome these two physicians to this area.”

Assad joins WMG’s pulmonary and sleep medicine office located in the Williamson Tower, which adjoins the medical center where he will practice alongside Laura Hunt, M.D., Aaron Milstone, M.D., F.C.C.P., and Devin Sherman, M.D.

Johnson joins WMG’s surgical office located at 4601 Carothers Parkway in Franklin where he will practice with A. J. Bethurum, M.D., F.A.C.S., Preston Brown, M.D., F.A.C.S., Ysela Carrillo, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.C.C.M., and Dustin Smith, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Both Assad and Johnson are accepting new patients. Appointments can be scheduled now at the following numbers: Tufik Assad, M.D., M.S.C.I, 615-790-4159 and Timothy Johnson, M.D., M.S., 615-794-8900.
