Medical Scholarships
Thanks to donations made to the Williamson Medical Center Foundation and Williamson Medical Center’s Volunteer Auxiliary, we are able to provide several medical scholarships every year to local students pursuing degrees in healthcare.
The 2022 scholarship application window is now closed. Please check back in the Spring of 2023.
How to Apply:

Complete ENTRY FORM.

Write a one-page essay outlining your:

Experience in healthcare, if any.
-
Educational and future healthcare goals.
-
Reason for applying for the scholarship.
- What qualities you bring to the healthcare field.

Make a list of your accomplishments.

Include your awards, extracurricular activities, community involvement, etc.

Obtain two recommendations. One personal and one professional letter of recommendation are required. An instructor may provide a recommendation if the applicant is not employed in healthcare.

Provide a copy of your most recent high school or college transcript showing current GPA.

Fay Porter Memorial Scholarship
The Fay Porter Memorial Scholarship is named after Fay Porter, who was a friend and longtime supporter of Williamson Medical Center. The scholarship ranges from $500 to $2,500 depending on the circumstances of the student awarded the scholarship.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be pursuing any type of degree in a health-related field.
Ike Brown Scholarship
The Ike Brown Scholarship is named in honor of Mr. Isaac “Ike” Brown, who served on Williamson Medical Center’s Board of Trustees for 24 years, the last six of which he was chairman. This scholarship will pay $2,500 toward medical school tuition to the student selected to receive this scholarship.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be seeking a medical degree.
Kim McMurray Memorial Nursing Scholarship
The Kim McMurray Memorial Nursing Scholarship is named in memory of beloved nurse, Kim McMurray. She tirelessly served as a nurse at Williamson Medical Center for nearly 30 years and continued to work in various roles during years of arduous chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. This scholarship provides an additional $500 and will be awarded to a nursing student accepted in the nursing curriculum who demonstrates a particular connection to cancer or the treatment of cancer.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be seeking a medical degree with a relationship to breast cancer.
- Secondary consideration is given to students seeking a medical degree with relationship to other types of cancer.
Craig Ferrell Memorial Scholarship
The Craig Ferrell Memorial Scholarship is named after the late Craig Ferrell, M.D., founder of the Franklin Bone and Joint Clinic, orthopaedic surgeon at Williamson Medical Center, and team physician for the United States Olympic team, supporting equestrian and swimming. Dr. Ferrell was a pillar in the community while participating in various charitable organizations. His legacy led to the establishment of the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee. The Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee in partnership with the Williamson Medical Center Foundation will provide a $1000 scholarship to graduating high school seniors in Williamson County who will be pursuing a degree in medicine, athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy or other health related fields.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree in medicine, athletic training, physical or occupational therapy.
- Secondary consideration will be given to high school seniors pursuing a degree in other health-related fields.
- Applicants must be a Williamson County resident, dependent of WMC employee or WMC junior volunteer.
- Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Sally Doan Memorial Scholarship
Sally Doan was a patient at Williamson Medical Center over a decade ago. Her family has chosen to honor her memory through providing financial assistance to one student each year through the Williamson Medical Center Foundation. Please indicate your interest to be considered as a candidate by notating the Sally Doan Memorial Scholarship in your essay.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be students pursing a medical degree.
Angie Tillman Nursing Scholarship
Provided by WMC’s Volunteer Auxiliary, the Angie Tillman Nursing Scholarship provides scholarships for students pursuing degrees in nursing. One student will receive a scholarship totaling $10,000. The recipient will receive $2,500 each year for four years, as long as he or she maintains academic and eligibility requirements.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be graduating high school seniors pursuing a BSN degree.
- Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
- Applicants must be a Williamson County resident, dependent of WMC employee or WMC junior volunteer.
- Applicants must intend to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited college or university in Tennessee to pursue a BSN degree.
